CUTS AND FABRICS IN OVERDRIVE AT JW ANDERSON SS25

Just two months after showcasing his menswear collections, Jonathan Anderson hit the runway again this weekend with his JW Anderson Spring-Summer 2025 womenswear line. And soon, he’ll be back with Loewe. The relentless pace of the fashion world has been under scrutiny for a while now, with designers like Jacquemus and Alaïa ditching the official calendar to follow their own schedules.

While most designers are stuck in the whirlwind of churning out eight collections a year, Anderson’s latest show hints at a daring question: Can we do this differently?

For this collection, Anderson stripped it down to the essentials: five fabrics—satin, leather, cashmere, sequins, and lace. From these, he crafted forty looks. He called these “strict limitations” a “liberating act,” a creative reset toward more mindful design. A standout moment? A top and dress printed with an essay on innovation and the future of design, as if Anderson wanted to quite literally weave his thoughts into the fabric.

When it came to cuts, though, he didn’t hold back. Skirts unfolded into massive discs, knits were shredded into strips, and oversized mesh pieces struck a delicate yet powerful balance. The architectural, surreal shapes that have always defined Anderson’s aesthetic were dialed up even further.

JW Anderson’s latest show felt like a bold experiment—one that questions the traditional fashion system and makes a statement with fewer materials but grander ideas.
